Natalie Dau Makes History: Completes 1,000km Charity Run Across Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore

Recently, a 52-year-old woman from Singapore named Natalie Dau made the news by covering 1,000 km from Thailand to Singapore within twelve days. She became the holder of the Singapore record for “Fastest 1,000km Thailand-Singapore Ultramarathon” and may be accepted into the Guinness World Record for “Fastest Crossing of Peninsular Malaysia on Foot.

Having started in Thailand, this was her stopover after going through Malaysia before reaching its last destination in Singapore. In spite of harsh weather conditions, including scorching heat, swollen legs, and encounters with wild dogs, Natalie Dau persevered and crossed the finish line at the Westin Singapore on June 7, 2024.

Natalie Dau's Ultramarathon Journey

Natalie Dau had been running ultramarathons enthusiastically until she wanted a more personal challenge than just another race. It is named Project 1000, and she describes it as a means to push herself beyond limits while also assisting others to realize their dreams. “It doesn’t have to be 1,000 km; it could just be doing a 1 km walk for a start,” she stated. Think about what you want to achieve and go for it.”

40-year-old Natalie Dau began jogging as a way to lose some weight, but she developed an unexpected love for running. This passion grew into participating in ultramarathons quite quickly. Other races she has completed are the Gobi March in China (250 km), the Atacama Crossing in Chile (250 km), and the Marathon des Sables in Morocco (250 km).

Besides being an impressive runner, Natalie Dau is also the founder of Pathfinders, a not-for-profit organization that supports disabled children in Singapore. She has used this platform as an opportunity to raise funds for various causes, including education and healthcare provision, among others.

Her dedication to the community and her love for running have not gone unnoticed. She has been dubbed a “Front & Female” leader by Tatler Asia, a leading magazine that celebrates notable women in Asia.

However successful she may be, Natalie Dau remains humble and committed to achieving her goals. According to her, anyone can achieve their dreams if they think about it. “It’s all about mindset,” she says. “If you believe you can do it, you will.”
