Renault Unveils Striking Grand Koleos SUV for Korean Market
Renault has officially taken the wraps off the all-new Grand Koleos SUV at the Busan Motor Show 2024. Internally known as the Renault Aurora 1 project, the Grand Koleos is a completely unique product developed in collaboration with Chinese automaker Geely.
The Grand Koleos shares its underpinnings with Geely’s Xingyue L SUV, utilizing the company’s CMA platform. This platform also underpins models like the Volvo XC40 and several Lynk & Co vehicles. Renault and Geely have also established a joint venture called HORSE Powertrain Limited, which will focus on the design, development, production, and sales of hybrid powertrain components and systems, including batteries.
Under the hood, the Grand Koleos is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain, delivering a blend of performance and efficiency. This makes the Grand Koleos a significant departure from the previous Koleos model sold in India, which was a traditional SUV.
In terms of design, the Grand Koleos features a modern and striking appearance, with a bold front grille, sleek LED headlights, and a muscular stance. The interior of the vehicle is equally impressive, boasting a plethora of screens and a high-tech, premium-feeling cabin.
While the Grand Koleos is set to be a Korea-only model for now, it represents an interesting collaboration between Renault and Geely. The two automakers have come together to develop a unique product that caters to the specific needs and preferences of the Korean market.
In India, Renault’s focus will remain on introducing the Duster and Bigster SUVs starting next year, along with a sporty variant of the Kiger SUV. The company is also expected to make minor updates to its existing lineup in the country.
The unveiling of the Grand Koleos showcases Renault’s continued efforts to expand its global footprint and explore new market opportunities. By leveraging Geely’s expertise and platform, Renault has created a compelling SUV that is sure to turn heads in Korea. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, collaborations like this are likely to become more common, as automakers seek to optimize resources and cater to diverse regional preferences.
