Why Katappa kill Baahubali?
India and the world wanted to know. Nothing was more agonizing than this wait. This part is more like an introduction to the earlier part and we have a journey to understand the lineage and the birth of Mahendra Baahubali played by Prabhas very effectively in a dual role. This is a cinematic version of Amar Chitra Katha of Kings and queens, schemes and duals, elephants and stunts. Moral of the story is the age old. Good always triumphs. This movie is like the encyclopedia of visual effects with a heart. It has a great story, very Indian at its core and has an impressive climax. The director’s vision has to be applauded. It is tough to have a mental canvas so huge. The visual extravaganza is pure hero worship with a female component of pride of power and ethics thrown in. This is India’s answer to the Hollywood special effects we are brought up on.
The story has Shivagami who has raised the orphaned yet warring princes Baahubali (Prabhas) and Bhallala (Rana Dagubatti). Baahubali is the good guy and evil is Bhallala. The queen commands and rule and has enough enemies like Nassar and retainer Kattappa (Sathyaraj) who are the pawns and the strategists as the murderous plot rolls out.
There is the court drama galore. The heart is what beats in this movie, which is a slice of action, from a bygone era. Baahubali’s scenes with Devasena, Him defeating Bhallal, his muscles, his power and his right by birth. In defense of his kingdom, he will shed blood and he can also be soft as a flower. He is a real hero. Eye candy yes. He is all brawn, strength and power. The movie is huge in terms of the budget and the ambition. Watch both to understand why Indian stories are collectors items. From moonlight wars to the celestial Mahismati, to safeguarding oxen to postal birds, a waterside view and romance brimming.
The CGI and VFX deep fried in emotions is a heady mix. Devasena is deliriously beautiful. Amarendra and her romance is the stuff of legend and can bring on a heavy hearted smile of longing. Shivagami is power. Mahismati and Kuntala is the canvas in this epic combination of mythology and folklore. Some say it has the traces of the Chola empire and its grandeur. It is part fiction and part fact we may never get to authenticate.This film is a universal tale with Indian roots and our holy books, scriptures and wars can be found here. It is the universal of truth ofthe infinite cycle of life and death and strategy for power. This cinematic myth is a medium to reconstruct the lost and magnificent, bygone era for the benefit of the new generation who understands technology than psychology.
